A nearly two-year investigation into an alleged Spallumcheen grow operation ended Tuesday with the arrest of two people.
In October, 2012 the RCMP office in Armstrong started an investigation into a report of a possible grow operation in the 3300 block of Hope Drive.
Rural officers of the Vernon-North Okanagan detachment, with the assistance of police service dog teams, and B.C. Hydro, conducted a search warrant Wednesday under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act at the suspect property.
Two people, a man and a woman, aged 53 and 50, were arrested and transported to Armstrong RCMP Detachment for production of a controlled substance.
“The two suspects claimed to have a production license to grow marijuana,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “Further investigation by our officers determined they had one for a different address and considerably less plants (total of 392 plants).”
The seizure Wednesday resulted in 1,446 marijuana plants being seized from the residence along with all the growing equipment.
Power to the residence had to be disconnected by Hydro because of electrical safety concerns.
Both suspects have been released on a promise to appear in court July 31.
