Speed leads to extra charges

The driver, who is on conditions, was detained for breach of his parole, and a small amount of marijuana was seized

A Kelowna motorist is facing a raft of charges after a highway stop.

A Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP North Okanagan Traffic Services officer, conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 97 south of Vernon Wednesday, noticed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed shortly after 2:30 p.m.

“The car was stopped and the officer spoke to the driver,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “The officer quickly determined that the plates on the car actually belonged to a van, and was not associated with the car. The driver also had a strong odor of marijuana present on him as well.”

The 46-year-old man, who is on conditions, was detained for breach of his parole, and a small amount of marijuana was seized while dealing with him.

He is also being charged with excessive speed, no insurance and misuse of plates under the Motor Vehicle Act.
