An Enderby area business continues to rebuild after a devastating fire.
Gas and convenience sales are now in the new building at the Super Save on Splatsin First Nation’s lands.
“The building is on schedule with anticipated completion and grand opening in early fall,” said Gloria Morgan, president of Quilakwa Investments.
The former structure was destroyed by fire eight months ago, destroying the inside of the building and all of the equipment and inventory.
“On behalf of the board of directors and the Splatsin First Nation, we thank all of our customers for their patronage and continued patience as we transition into our new facility,” said Morgan.
A temporary structure was up and running within a month, allowing for operation to resume. Work on the new store started in late April and was officially open for business on July 4.
“We had to deal with the excessive rain which slowed construction a little,” said Grahame Go, project manager.
Go anticipates the second phase of the project, which includes a restaurant, meeting rooms and office, to be completed at the end of August.
The new food mart building is made with log post and beam construction, with structural insulated panels for increased energy savings. A pair of Enderby businesses – Driven Construction and Sperlich Log Homes – were contracted for the project.
Splatsin Chief Wayne Christian said this is the first of many new projects that will create employment and economic development, not only for the Splatsin First Nation, but also for Enderby and the surrounding area.
