Maverick, a Lab/Mastiff puppy, stolen Monday from his Chilliwack home, was spotted the next day in the neighbourhood and returned safe and sound.
RCMP Const. Tracy Wolbeck said a neighbour spotted the puppy, who was led away from the fenced backyard on Windsor Street by a Caucasian male at about 2 p.m.
Maverick’s brother Tucker, from the same litter, was not taken.
The family’s two teenage daughters spent the afternoon calling local vets and animal shelters in search of Maverick, who needed medication for a chronic knee problem.
But they had no luck until the sharp-eyed neighbour spotted Maverick early Tuesday morning.
Wolbeck said the theft was “just as act of cruelty.”
“A pet is a family member, and there is really no monetary motivation for stealing a dog,” she said.
