A Port Alberni liquor store in the 5000 block of Johnston Road was broken into using a stolen vehicle on Thursday, March 2.

Port Alberni RCMP were called to a report of a break and enter in progress at about 1 a.m. after a neighbour heard the sound of glass smashing.

When police arrived at the scene they found that the front doors of the liquor store had been smashed open. They also found wet tire tracks along with a trail of broken glass leading out of the parking lot and appearing to lead south on the Victoria Quay.

Police cordoned off the area and conducted patrols. A recently abandoned stolen green Dodge Grand Caravan was located in the alley between Fourth and Fifth Avenue near Argyle Street. The Caravan had broken glass scattered on its bumper and some of the stolen liquor was located inside the vehicle. Further patrols failed to locate the suspect or suspects.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who knows the identity of the suspect or suspects is asked to contact the Port Alberni RCMP Detachment at 250-723-2424 or Alberni Valley Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
