Mark Strahl was sworn in as the new MP for Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon during a short ceremony in Ottawa this week, setting up an office there before Parliament resumes June 2.

But the Conservative MP has decided to keep his father’s constituency offices in Chilliwack and Lillooet to hit the ground running and save taxpayers’ money.

“People know where the offices are, and we saved taxpayers a bunch of money by using existing spaces,” Strahl said in a news release.

“Most importantly, using the same office space allows us to get to work sooner,” he said.

Strahl’s father, Chuck Strahl, shared the office at 102-7388 Vedder Road with BC MLA Barry Penner until he decided not to run for re-election.

The Chilliwack office is expected to open June 1 from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The part-time office in Lillooet, located at 657 Main St., will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
