The past month and a half of below-average temperatures is to blame for the closure of Downes Road in rural Abbotsford this week.
Crews are working Monday and Tuesday to shore up a portion of the road that collapsed between Ross and Bradner roads.
Traffic is being redirected away from the area, with re-opening expected later this week.
Repeated freezing and thawing can cause a road to swell and buckle due to changing densities and prompted the rapid deterioration.
