Cadet Dawson Burdick, a member of the 902 Nighthawk Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, was selected as top cadet in 9 Platoon during the three week Basic Fitness and Sports Course.

Burdick is one of 110 cadets attending the first intake of the course. In addition to improving their athletic skills in recreational sports, cadets were also taught how to make healthy food choices, safety awareness, goal setting and the duties of an assistant recreation instructor.

More than 1,770 cadets from western Canada will spend up to six weeks at the training centre during the summer.

The cadet program is a national program for youths between the ages of 12 and 18.

The Summerland squadron meets each Wednesday, beginning in September, from 6:30 to 9:15 p.m.
