Super citizen sought

Nelson’s Knights of Columbus are once again looking for someone to honour as citizen of the year.

Nelson’s Knights of Columbus are once again looking for someone to honour as citizen of the year.

Nomination forms are available at city hall, Sonja’s China Cabinet, and the Chamber of Commerce. The deadline is February 29 at 4 p.m. Further details and criteria are available with the forms.

Bob Tremblay with the Knights says the banquet is tentatively set for April 21, but may be moved a week earlier, depending on the honouree’s availability. Either way, it will be held at St. Joseph’s school, and tickets will be on sale shortly after the winner is announced.

Tremblay says over the years the number of nominees has been anywhere from one to 20. A five-member panel determines the winner.

“The judges always have a difficult time,” he says. “They have to go by their instincts and best judgment and we always have an alternate just in case the person nominated says ‘No, I don’t like to be recognized in public.’”

It’s the 48th year the Knights have sponsored the event.

Last year’s winner was Bill McDonnell.
