Mounties raised more than $15,000 and six tons of food for the Surrey Food Bank this season

The numbers are in, and the Surrey RCMP’s Pack the Police Car campaign is being hailed as a huge success.

More than $15,000 in cash and six tons of food were collected for the Surrey Food Bank during the twelve day campaign that ended on Christmas Eve.

“This is a tremendous showing of support from the community,” said Marilyn Herrmann, Executive Director for the Surrey Food Bank. “Working with great community partners such as the Surrey RCMP helps us raise our profile and donations to ensure that no one goes hungry at this time of year.”

Surrey Mounties said the were just a receptacle for public generosity.

“We are just the conduit through which the generous citizens of Surrey were able to give to this great cause,” siad Surrey RCMP Inspector Garry Begg. “We are happy to initiate this campaign and look forward to doing it again next year.”

Surrey RCMP employees were also able to contribute an additional $4,000 through various fund-raising initiatives at the Detachment, bringing the grand total to over $18,000.
