Kelowna police are looking to identify a suspect after receiving a report of a strange set of circumstances that occurred in early November.
On Nov. 4 at about 12:30 am, an 18-year-old Kelowna woman and a 22-year-old Vernon man returned to the parking lot of the Willow Park Church in Rutland to retrieve a vehicle. As the pair pulled in to the parking lot, they saw a man on Highway 33 near the entrance to the church.
“They then discovered the woman’s car now had a flat tire and they proceed to fix it,” said Const. Kris Clark, with the Kelowna RCMP.
“The Vernon man retrieved tools from the trunk of the car and turned around to find the man he had seen earlier only a few feet away. The unknown suspect was allegedly pointing a black handgun at the Vernon man but put it away after asking if the young man was going to hit him with the tire iron.”
The suspect hung around while the two changed the flat tire, even offering to help at one point.
“The man continued to act erratically and allegedly brandished a knife but never otherwise threatened harm,” said Clark.
“Once they changed the flat tire, the suspect apologized and walked away, headed westbound on Highway 33.”
The suspect is described as:
-
Caucasian male
-
Heavy build
-
Called himself “Damien”
The suspect was last seen wearing:
-
White t-shirt
-
Dark hoodie
-
Baggy Jeans
-
Flat-brim ballcap
Neither the man nor the woman were injured during this incident.
