Vernon RCMP have arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery attempt Wednesday at a Vernon gas station.
Officers were called to the Blue Moon Esso in the 2400 block of 34th Street shortly before 4:30 p.m. for a report of an attempted robbery.
“Information was that a lone woman entered the Esso, produced a pocket knife and demanded money from the register,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “The clerk refused to provide any cash and the suspect fled on foot.”
The suspect was described as small and skinny, wearing a black hat, sunglasses, brown shirt, shorts and sandals.
Officers made patrols of the area and the suspect was not immediately located.
Shortly after 5 p.m., police were called to a report of a shoplifter that staff had detained at a jewelry store on 30th Avenue. Police responded and a woman closely matching the description of the robbery suspect was arrested.
“Investigation and evidence found has led officers to recommend charges of robbery, theft under $5,000 and obstruction against a 31-year-old woman from the Comox area,” said Molendyk.
The suspect is slated to make an appearance in Vernon Provincial Court today (Thursday).
