A 7-Eleven convenience store in Chilliwack was held up by a gun-toting suspect in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A lone male fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise.
An RCMP officer had the suspect, who was known to police, in custody later that day, after a display of “diligent” police work, said RCMP Const. Tracy Wolbeck.
A lone male had entered the store on Vedder Road at some time after midnight, pointed a firearm at the clerk and then fled the scene, witnesses told police.
The general duty officer who was later patrolling in the Sumas Central Road area, pulled over a vehicle in a traffic stop.
“We had been actively looking for the suspect,” said Const. Tracy Wolbeck.
The action resulted in both driver and passenger being arrested in connection to the robbery.
Joshua Marlowe, 20, of Chilliwack was also charged in three other robberies in Chilliwack, as well as the 7-Eleven incident.
Marlowe was charged with the March 2 robbery of Duke’s Off Sales Liquor Store, the April 26 robbery of the Esso Gas station on Amber Drive, and the April 28 robbery of the Best Western Liquor Store.
Kira Kostis, 28 of Chilliwack who was the second occupant in the vehicle was also charged with robbery in connection to the 7-Eleven incident.
“To get someone like this off the streets is an enormous success for us,” said Cst. Tracy Wolbeck.
The suspect Kostis was not known to police, while suspect Marlowe was, according to police files.
“These robberies had been a big concern to us and it was through diligent police work that these people will not have the opportunity to re-offend again.”
Marlowe and Kostis remain in custody until their next court appearance on May 29.
