Suspected grow-op being investigated after assault incident in Nanaimo

NANAIMO – A man is in custody after police responded to a report of an assault in Nanaimo on Saturday morning.



A man is in custody after police responded to a report of an assault in Nanaimo Saturday morning.

At 10:40 a.m. Saturday, Nanaimo RCMP received a report from a woman, who said she had been assaulted by a man in her home on Benson View Road, said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, in a press release.

According to O’Brien, Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team, RCMP officers and police dog services attended and entered the home. A 57-year-old was located and arrested, facing charges for assault and for firearm-related offences.

“The 40-year-old female was located with minor injuries and she did not require medical attention,” said O’Brien. “While in the home, officers located several firearms and a suspected illegal marijuana grow operation.”

The suspected grow-op is currently being investigated, O’Brien said.
