Canada’s Milos Raonic will meet Spain’s Rafael Nadal Sunday in the final of the Rogers Cup men’s tennis tournament in Montreal.
Raonic, from Brampton, Ont., scored a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4) win over Vernon’s Vasek Pospisil in the first semifinal in front of a capacity crowd thrilled to see two Canadians battling for a spot in the championship match.
Raonic is the first Canadian to advance to the tournament final since 1958.
The win guarantees Raonic will be a top-10 ranked player at the tournament’s conclusion.
Pospisil earned $128,000 for his final four appearance, and he is now ranked No. 40 in the world.
Nadal advanced to the final with a three-set win over the world’s No. 1-ranked player, Novak Djokovic.
