Darius Bellrose of 363 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Campbell River has received the Top Cadet Award for his class.

The 13-year-old and his identical twin brother, Guillaume, both graduated Aug. 2 in Victoria – along with 138 other air cadets from throughout B.C. – during a ceremonial parade at Albert Head Air Cadet Summer Training Centre.

One Top Cadet is selected from each of the six Flights, and takes into account all the qualities that make up a model air cadet. The recipients have demonstrated exemplary performance in their drill, dress, and deportment, and are considered to be team players in their Flights.

The cadets completed a busy program, including military drill, sports, citizenship activities, and had an opportunity to fly.

The cadets have also participated in adventure training classes, including survival and a trip to the range to learn how to safely handle an air rifle. The cadets visited Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site and B.C. Legislature.
