Creston Town Council recommended approved of grants totaling $73,084 to 38 organizations and projects at the April 24 regular meeting.
The funding is Creston’s allocation of the Community Initiatives Program 2018 pool of funds from the Columbia Basin Trust. The grants become official when confirmed by the Regional District of Central Kootenay this month.

In other Town Council news:
• A request from the 55+ BC Senior Games Society for a council discretionary grant was denied, the Society will be advised to apply for Community Initiatives Program funding in the future.
• Colin Farynowski, Manager of Engineering, outlined the Town’s plan this year to spend the budgeted $496,000 on road restoration. The bulk of the funds will go to a tendered micro-surfacing program bid of $355,000 to West-Can Seal Coating Inc., which has done work in Creston previously.
• The Five Year Financial Plan Bylaw, a provincial requirement, was adopted, and the 2018 Tax Rates Bylaw was given first second and third readings.
