Tripp Tease, the Comox Valley entry in the 2013 Black Press Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race, was in third place overall in Division One after six legs of the 10-leg race around Vancouver Island.
Tripp Tease finished third in its 10-ship division on leg six from Telegraph Cover to Port Hardy and June 13.
“Upwind race in 12 knots,” the crew posted on its blog. “Extremely close with the Div. 1 boats. Lots of tacking! Hanging well just behind White Cloud and Terremoto. Ahead of the rest of the fleet.”
Van Isle organizers said the racing (on June 13) was great. “…started out light in Telegraph, but was building all day. Most of the boats finished in a nice 12 knot (or more) breeze and sun!
“There was great racing in all the fleets. Unfortunately we had two boats retire, but both made it safely to the dock and we will see them on the start line tomorrow.
We’re all looking forward to the lay day in Winter Harbour, time to catch up on sleep!”
Race organizers note updates on the seventh leg (June 14, Port Hardy to Winter Harbour) may not be posted until Ucluelet depending on Internet access in Winter Harbour.
The yachts leave Winter Harbour on June 16 for Ucluelet. The final legs go June 19 (Ucluelet to Victoria) and June 21 (Victoria to Nanaimo) where the 580-nautical mile event both started and ends.
After six legs, Tripp Tease was third overall in Division 1 with 166 points, with fourth-place Radical Departure close behind with 165. Terremoto leads the division with 206 points while White Cloud is second with 198.
