Vernon RCMP, with assistance from South East District major crimes unit, are investigating two suspicious deaths in Vernon’s BX area.
Police were called to a home on Hartnell Road at about 1:40 a.m. Monday for a report of shots being fired.
“When our officers arrived at the home, they found two people deceased,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk Monday afternoon. “Our first responding officers assisted two children and an adult relative out of the home to a vehicle. None of these three were harmed in this event.”
Molendyk said Monday that the call to police came from inside the home.
The South East District Major Crimes Unit was called in to assist in this investigation and are working with the B.C. Coroners Service.
“They continue to work on it and are treating the deaths of the two people inside the residence as suspicious,” said Molendyk.
The names are not being released at this time as police work to notify the next of kin and continue to investigate and follow up on details of this tragic event.
The investigating officers are asking anyone who might have heard shots being fired on Hartnell Road late Sunday night or early Monday morning to please call the Vernon RCMP office at 250-545-7171.
The RCMP expect to release further details on this file Tuesday.
