Two face charges in fraudulent business scheme

President and controller of road building company charged after lengthy investigation.

Two company executives, including a 46-year-old Langley man, of the Surrey-based Aggressive Roadbuilders are facing charges in relation to a fraudulent business scheme which allegedly involved numerous false and misleading operating claims.

Charges have now been approved against the president, Matthew Gregory Brooks, 47, of Surrey, and the controller/bookkeeper, Kirk Dennis Roberts, of Langley. Both men are facing charges of fraud over $5,000 and are due back in court Feb. 13.

The investigation began in 2009 when the RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime unit (FSOC) received information from a financial institution about exaggerated and over-inflated financial documents associated to a business line of credit for Aggressive Roadbuilders.

“Significant fraud investigations like this rely on the comprehensive analysis of all financial records. They are intensely time-consuming for all involved, including police, businesses and government agencies, and the costs incurred must ultimately be absorbed elsewhere within our economy,” said RCMP Insp. Brian Gateley of FSOC.
