Two hikers found safe after three-hour search

Two teenage girls who were reported missing last night (Monday) on Sumas Mountain were located by search and rescue crews at 11:20 p.m.

The two 15-year-old hikers, Natalie West and Paige Nagata, had been dropped off at a gate to Sumas Mountain Inter-Regional Park at about 5:30 p.m. and were supposed to returned to the same location for pick-up at 7 p.m.

The girls failed to show up, and they could not be reached on their cellphones.

Neither were dressed for the conditions nor brought supplies for the hike, according to police.

Abbotsford Police was called just after 8 p.m., and Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue was also dispatched to the scene.

The two hikers, who has stopped on a trail and waited for help, were located in good health.
