A Chilliwack man is dead after falling from the back of a pickup truck on No. 3 road and Boundary Road late Sunday night.
The 18-year-old has been identified by the BC Coroners Service as Adam Burchart.
The 18-year-old driver, also from Chilliwack, was to appear in court Monday.
RCMP were recommending a charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.
However, Crown counsel recommend he be released on a promise to appear on Nov. 19.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. According to police, the truck was traveling along a straight stretch of Boundary Road with a driver and passenger in the cab and two male passengers in the box.
One of the passengers fell out of the box of the truck, struck the road and sustained extensive injuries.
Paramedics attended the incident, but the passenger died of his injuries at the scene. The B.C. Coroners Service and the Lower Mainland District Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services are assisting in the investigation.
Conflicting reports early on indicated the man fell from the back of the truck and then was driven over by the vehicle.
All four men were from Chilliwack.
