The B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed the man found dead aboard a B.C. Ferry was Ray Nelson, 56, of Port Alberni.
Nelson died Feb. 19, sometime after he boarded the 9 p.m. ferry from Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay.
Nelson was seen walking around and talking with people in the Departure Bay ferry terminal in Nanaimo for about an hour before the sailing and boarded the ferry as a foot passenger.
He was later found aboard the ferry, collapsed on the upper car deck and could not be resuscitated. Police say there is no evidence of foul play.
The identification was made with help from Nanaimo RCMP and through tips received by West Vancouver Police Department after a press release was issued, asking for information that could identify Nelson.
Nelson’s family has been notified of his death.
