Update: Coroners identify pedestrian killed by truck in Summerland

The man killed by a transport truck Monday in Summerland has been identified as Gildo Vit.

His name was released Wednesday by the B.C. Coroners Service, which noted Vit’s family has asked for privacy.

A man is dead after being struck by a transport truck Monday in Summerland.

Mounties say the 77-year was crossing Highway 97 at the uncontrolled intersection with Steuart Street when he was hit by the southbound truck around 10 a.m.

“He was taken to hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries,” RCMP spokesman Const. Kris Clark said in a press release.

The victim’s name has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Clark said the truck driver stopped at the scene and has been co-operative with police.

The highway has been since been reopened to traffic.
