UPDATE: Few new faces in Chilliwack civic vote

There will be few new faces on city council or the school board as Chilliwack voters returned most of the incumbents Saturday.

There will be few new faces on city council or the school board as Chilliwack voters returned most of the incumbents Saturday.

On council Ken Popove and Jason Lum will join incumbents Chuck Stam (who received the most votes), Ken Huttema, Sue Attrill and Stewart McLean.

Ron Browne finished just outside the cut, earning 117 fewer votes than McLean.

The two new councillors replace Pat Clark, who chose not to seek re-election, and Diane Janzen, who stepped down to run under the Liberal banner in the last federal election.

Sharon Gaetz, who went unchallenged in this election, returns as mayor.

On school board, two new names have been added. Walt Krahn secured the most votes to lead the field, with Barry Neufeld – returning to the board after a one-term absence – finishing with the second highest tally.

The two were followed by incumbents Silvia Dyck, Martha Wiens, Louise Piper, Heather Maahs and Doug McKay.

Krahn and Neufeld replace incumbent Darlene Wahlstrom, the only incumbent not to be re-elected, and John-Henry Harter, who chose not to seek re-election.

Owen Skonberg secured the most votes of those running for the Cultus Lake Park Board. He was followed by Bob McCrea, Carlton Toews, Sacha Peter and Malcolm Shanks.
