UPDATE – Nanaimo police ask for help to locate camera’s owner

NANAIMO – Owners of camera found near Campbell Lake have been identified.

The owners of a camera Nanaimo RCMP asked the public for help tracking down have been found in Switzerland.

The Sidler family, who live in Klosters, Switzerland, were visiting the Island when they lost their camera.

The camera was found June 15 in the water of lower Campbell Lake near  Campbell River, but the person who found it turned it over to the Nanaimo RCMP detachment.

The camera contained pictures, dating from May and June, of a couple with two small children vacationing on what appears to be Vancouver Island, plus a picture of a woman in a kayak, which were posted online by police and media Monday. The woman pictured in the kayak is a friend of the Sidler family who lives in Port Moody, B.C., who recognized herself and contacted Nanaimo RCMP.

Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said Tuesday the camera will be turned over to the woman who will in turn ensure it is returned to the Sidlers.
