You can help the Sunshine Valley Child Care Society on Earth Hour, this Saturday, March 31 between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.
FortisBC is holding the 2012 Earth Hour Community Challenge and people across the province are encouraged to sign up online to switch off their lights.
The community with the greatest number of people signing up per capita will win bragging rights and if Grand Forks wins, the Sunshine Valley Child Care Society will win an energy savings upgrade valued up to $5,000.
Grand Forks is currently faring quite poorly as only 0.95 per cent of the population has voted, as of March 30 at 9:32 a.m. – Salmo and Crawford Bay are in the lead with 61.99 per cent.
Earth Hour is a global event that encourages people to turn their lights off for an hour and to think about the electricity they use every hour of every day.
Local residents can pledge here and could win a weekend getaway at Kelowna, B.C.’s Manteo Resort.
