An evacuation alert for Johnsons Landing has been lifted after the threat of a landslide was found to be minor.
The Regional District of Central Kootenay issued a statement Tuesday afternoon that said the slide area and debris flood at nearby Gar Creek weren’t of any danger to residents.
The town had been on alert since Monday morning after a two-metre wide flood and approximately 500 cubic metres of materials moved off a high slope. None of those materials reached any residences.
Residents are still being asked to steer clear of Gar Creek for the time being. A reception centre at the Argenta Community Hall meanwhile has been closed.
A 2012 landslide in Johnsons Landing killed four people and destroyed several properties.
There have been several slides this month in the West Kootenay.
A slide near Deer Park, which is northwest of Castlegar, cut off access to a forestry service road earlier this month after part of the road slid into the nearby lake. The closure affected 18 residents of Deer Park, as well as property owners in nearby Renata.
That road is expected to be available to drivers again Monday.
Elsewhere, a slide south of New Denver cut off access to several homes, a home near Ainsworth had to be evacuated following another slide, and a slide left boulders on Highway 3 about 10 kilometres west of Creston.
