An overturned car was among several vehicles involved in a crash on Hwy. 1 in Abbotsford on Friday afternoon.

A crash involving five vehicles on the Sumas exit overpass blocked traffic in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 in Abbotsford on Friday afternoon.

At shortly before 5 p.m., the RCMP’s Fraser Valley Traffic Services were called to the accident, which according to Insp. Tim Shields, “was caused by the driver of a Toyota pickup who rear-ended a Chrysler 300 that had slowed down in the exit lane prior to exiting the freeway.”

This first collision caused a chain reaction involved three more cars, one of which flipped onto its roof.

“All involved were able to walk away from the crash with minor injuries that included stiff necks,” said Shields.

The 66-year-old man driving the Toyota was ticketed for driving without due care and attention.

Ambulance, firefighters and Abbotsford Police also responded to the scene.

The clean-up and accident scene investigation in the eastbound lanes closed traffic for 90 minutes, and were reopened at 6:30 p.m.
