UPDATE: According to RCMP Const. Kris Clark, while the man has not been located, there are indications that he made it out of the bush and is in good condition. The search has been concluded but the investigation is continuing with police recommending charges of Possession of Stolen Property.
Police are on the look out for a 26-year-old male from Midway who fled on foot from a roadblock last night.
According to an RCMP release, Central Okanagan Traffic Services stopped a grey Ford F-150 with a U-Haul trailer at about 5:30 p.m. on Highway 33 near Daves Road, near Kelowna, B.C., last night (June 27).
“The driver and passengers were about to be detained for the purpose of an investigation when the front passenger suddenly fled the scene on foot. He jumped a barbed wire fence and ran down the side of a ravine to avoid capture by police,” RCMP said.
A police dog was used to track the man but he could not be located and apparently, he had “gone into a fast-flowing creek and his tracks could not be re-established.”
RCMP have identified the man and while they are recommending charges of Possession of Stolen Property, they are also concerned about his safety – they fear he could be injured due to the circumstances of his fleeing the scene.
He is described as a caucasian male, standing 5’10” (1.78 metres) and weighing 175 pounds (79.37 kilograms) and although the man has been identified, police have not released his name.
Anyone with information can call Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
RCMP say that a pair of stolen ATVs that had been stolen from Grand Prairie, Alta. were found in the U-Haul trailer.
