Vandals damage heavy duty equipment on Landfill Road

On Sept. 22, severe fire damage was caused to an excavator and Bobcat near the Port Alberni Landfill.

On Sept. 22 vandals caused close to $75,000 worth of damage to construction equipment, land and trees near the Port Alberni Landfill.

A large excavator and a Bobcat, part of road construction equipment, were left overnight on Thursday, Sept. 22 along the side of Landfill Road near McCoy Lake Road in Port Alberni.

Sometime after 8:30 p.m. vandals drove the excavator and Bobcat  around the area damaging land and trees before they were set on fire.

The excavator’s cab and some of its major components were destroyed by the fire. Significant fire damage was also done to the Bobcat.

Employees showed up for work at 7:15 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 to find the excavator and Bobcat badly damaged by fire.
