Ange Chew has been hired as Vernon's new tourism manager.

An industry specialist hopes to bring new ideas to Vernon’s tourism services.

Ange Chew, from Vancouver, will start Nov. 3 as the city’s tourism manager, taking over from Michelle Jefferson, who has retired.

“I am passionate about local food and travel experiences,” said Chew.

“This role at Tourism Vernon offered me a chance to combine my love of B.C., wines, local produce and experiential travel experiences — skiing and snowboarding, water sports, hiking, fishing and so much more — by promoting a vibrant and multi-faceted city and region to the world.”

Chew said she hopes to leverage her experiences and relationships with regional, provincial and federal tourism associations, key stakeholders and partners to raise awareness about Vernon nationally and internationally.

Chew has more than 20 years of marketing experience, including Tourism Richmond, Intrawest and Bellstar Hotels and Resorts.

“We are confident that Ange’s skills and breadth of industry experience will be an ideal match for Vernon and our tourism stakeholders and that she’ll be able to build upon the success we’ve achieved to date,” said Kevin Poole, Vernon’s economic development manager.
