Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP say police visits to five medical marijuana dispensaries in Greater Vernon last week was to “outline our concerns and the potential ramifications related to business practices which do not comply with the current Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).”
The local detachment issued a one-page press release Wednesday stating the visits were to ensure that individuals and businesses are fully aware of the legislation and expectations moving forward.
“By taking a pro-active approach, the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP is ensuring that these businesses have a clear understanding of the current laws surrounding marihuana and the CDSA and the potential ramifications should illegal activity be detected,” said the release.
The five businesses have been notified of the RCMP’s concerns, the provisions of the Marijuana Medical Access Regulations (MMAR), Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR), the CDSA federal statute and that possible actions may be taken by the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP in the future.
No specific deadline has been given in this matter, at this time.
The Vernon-North Okanagan detachment states it will not comment further on the issue.
