Vernon Recreation Complex reopens but pool activities delayed

The Halina Seniors Centre is now open and the complex will reopen for program registration and non-aquatic programs Monday.

Life is slowing getting back to normal at the Vernon Recreation Complex.

The Halina Seniors Centre is now open and the complex will reopen for program registration and non-aquatic programs Monday.

“Opening of the aquatics centre will be delayed by an additional week, with regular public swims and aquatics programming to start-up Oct. 7,” said Doug Ross, recreation services director.

The complex was shut down Aug. 26 for renovations and annual maintenance. But a flood in the basement Sept. 2 delayed some of the work.

Ross believes visitors will find some exciting improvements upon reopening of the facility.

“They include a new dehumidification system within the aquatics centre, new overhead and in-pool LED lighting and a renovated registration office with an accessible counter,” he said.

There Halina Seniors Centre’s entrance now has accessible automated sliding doors.

Residents can check out the improvements and celebrate the pool reopening by attending public swims Oct. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Oct. 13 from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

“The first 300 people at each event will swim for free,” said Ross.
