Vernon School District hires from within for new superintendent

Joe Rogers is currently director of student learning at the district office

The Vernon School District didn’t have to go far to find a new superintendent.

Joe Rogers, who is currently director of student learning, will replace Bev Rundell, who is retiring as superintendent.

“Mr. Rogers’ experience and knowledge of the district will provide the board of education with confidence that the goal of student success will be met and exceeded through Joe’s leadership of the school district,” said Bill Turanski, board chairperson.

Rogers has previously been principal at Kalamalka Secondary and vice-principal at Clarence Fulton and Vernon secondary schools. He was also the math department head at Vancouver College where he was subsequently successful in attaining a vice-principal position.

Rogers will begin his duties as superintendent Aug. 1.
