Vernon storage auction draws crowd

Vernon's The Stor-it Place uses Storage Wars-like auction to recoup losses on lockers, plus raise money for a local charity.

Vernon had its own version of Storage Wars Thursday.

Based on the popular television show where people bid on storage lockers that have been abandoned for the “treasures” inside, The Stor-It Place held an auction Thursday to try and recoup some of the money it lost when people abandoned lockers, or were unable to make payments.

Like the TV show, people had five minutes to look at the contents of the locker without going inside, then listened as auctioneer Kevin Rothwell began the bidding.

The highest priced bid on a locker was $2,700. Successful bidders have 24 hours to clean out the locker.

The Upper Room Mission hosted a barbecue at the event, which drew hundreds to the facility to see what kind of treasurers were left behind, with monies raised from the barbecue going to the mission.
