UPDATED 11 A.M. FEB. 18: Vernon’s Justin Dorey finished 12th in the first-ever Olympic men’s ski half pipe event in Sochi, Russia.
Dorey, who had the top qualifying score of 91.60, was on his way to what may have been a gold-medal performance in his first of two runs in the final when his skis caught the edge of the wall and Dorey crashed.
Dorey stumbled on his second run and finished with a lower score than his first run.
Mike Riddle of Sherwood Park, Alta, the 2011 World champion, won the silver medal behind American David Wise. Kevin Rolland of France was third.

Vernon’s Justin Dorey is in the hunt for a medal in the men’s ski halfpipe event at the Sochi Olympics.
Dorey qualified for the final with the top score of 91.60 points after two qualification runs in snowy conditions.
Two other Canadians are in the 12-man final field; Mike Riddle of Sherwood Park, Alta. and Noah Bowman of Calgary. Riddle was sixth in qualifying, Bowman was seventh.
The final begins at 9:30 a.m. on CBC-TV.
Matt Margetts of Penticton fell in his second qualifying run and missed the cut with a 15th-place finish.
Ski halfpipe is making its Olympic debut in Sochi.
