Firefighters were called out to hay barn fire at a dairy farm on Yale Road, near Little Mountain, in Chilliwack Friday

Chilliwack firefighters quickly contained a large barn fire in the 47000 block of Yale Road Friday morning.

The fire started at about 9:30 a.m at a dairy farm near Little Mountain. The metal sided barn was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.

Crews from firehalls 1, 2 and 4 fought to contain the fire, but were unable to save the barn. An excavator was eventually brought in to remove twisted sheets of metal to gain better access to the burning material.

No workers or animals were injured or harmed in the blaze.

Cause of the fire appears to be accidental and is still under investigation by the Chilliwack Fire Department.

Yale Road was closed in both directions for several hours.
