Calling all avid Alberni Valley volunteers, The Province and Emergency Management BC are looking for people to help out in two categories for the Emergency Coastal Response exercise happening from June 7 to 10 in the Alberni Valley.
Exercise Coastal Response is an initiative to highlight the many components of a provincial response to a major emercency.
Volunteers are needed to act as medical patients and work with first responders and Vancouver’s Heavy Urban Search and Rescue ( HUSAR) task force. Vounteers will be treated to a medical makeover by movie quality makeup artists and will be given a patient care script to follow.
Volunteers are also needed to act as Emergency Social Service clients. These folks will work with the ESS team at a reception or housing centre in the Valley and represent those in need of shelter, food and water.
All volunteers will receive a letter recognizing any services provided during the exercise.
In addition to people, materials and props are needed as well. The ECR volunteer co-ordinator team would like to aquire anything that could enhance the realism of the exercise including, boats, trucks or junk that could help with HUSAR training.
To connect with the volunteer coordinators, call 250 720-2709 or email portalberni2016@gmail.com
There’s no hard deadline for volunteers to sign up but those interested are encouraged to do so by the end of May to ensure they are included.
