The 2011 Kraft Celebration Tour voting between Armstrong and Creston has begun.

Residents have 24 hours, from 9 a.m. this morning to 9 a.m. Tuesday, to vote for Armstrong online as many times as they want at www.kraftcelebrationtour.ca.

The winning community gets $25,000 towards facility upgrades, and TSN will broadcast its evening Sportscentre broadcast on a night in August from the winning town.

Armstrong will use the money towards upgrades for the aging Hassen Arena at the IPE fairgrounds. Creston has earmarked the cash for fixing up its community centre.

Bridge Street in Armstrong is being turned into a one-day celebration area today.

The street beside Armstrong city hall and the Armstrong-Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce will be closed Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and transformed into the Hassen Arena Celebration Zone.

Computer banks will be set up for people to vote, and Askew’s Foods is hosting a free barbecue along Bridge Street from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The celebration zone will move tonight to the Nor-Val Sports Centre, where the Armstrong Shamrocks host the Kamloops Venom in game one of their Thompson-Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League semifinal series at 7:30 p.m.

The computer bank will move to Nor-Val as will the barbecue, starting at around 7 p.m. and will continue throughout the game.

Armstrong Mayor Chris Pieper has wagered 10 cases of Okanagan Spring beer with Creston Mayor Ron Toyota, who offered up 10 cases of Kokanee beer, brewed at the Columbia Brewing Company in Creston, if Armstrong wins the contest.

The winner between Armstrong and Creston will be announced on Tuesday during TSN Sportscentre’s evening show.
