The use of Abbotsford water for a massive North Vancouver slide event over the weekend didn’t break any rules, according to city staff.

Last weekend’s Slide The City drew thousands to downtown North Vancouver, where a 1,000-foot-long water slide was set up.

With North Vancouver currently under Stage 3 water restrictions, the city’s mayor, Darrell Mussatto, noted that the water used for the slide was being trucked in from Abbotsford.

But with Abbotsford also under restrictions, the comment prompted questions from several local residents.

City of Abbotsford spokesperson Katherine Treloar said staff looked into the issue, but concluded no restrictions had been broken because the water had originated from a private supplier, Country Fountain Spring.

That company operates a natural spring at its Mount Lehman Road property. The tens of thousands of gallons of water was recycled during the event, a company representative noted, and later used on local flowers.
