Greater Vernon residents can learn about a proposed water upgrade before heading to the polls.
The Regional District of North Okanagan has launched a new web portal at www.rdno.ca/water to provide information for the Nov. 15 borrowing referendum.
“Greater Vernon water service area electors will be asked if they are in favour of borrowing $70 million to fund the priority infrastructure projects outlined in the master water plan,” said Zee Marcolin, Greater Vernon Water manager.
Online, customers can find the full MWP document, as well as project summaries.
“The MWP is a planning document with a 40-year horizon that provides guidance to Greater Vernon Water in order to meet provincial health standards and sustainably manage current and future water demands,” said Marcolin.
“Of the projects recommended in the MWP, six were identified as priorities to be completed within the next seven years. These priority projects are the projects that will be funded with the $70 million dollars if the borrowing referendum is successful.”
Marcolin says the web page features a two-page summary that addresses how the referendum outcome would affect water quality, human health and water supply.
“The site also features an interactive map to learn the basics of each project including timelines for completion, estimated costs and how the projects benefit the system as a whole,” she said.
“For those wishing to learn about each priority project in greater detail, links are available to the 10 technical memorandums that make up the MWP.”
