Stage Two water restrictions will be in place in the Comox Valley from June 1 until Sept. 30.

Lawn sprinkling restrictions help curb peak demands in summer due to heavy water use, primarily for watering lawns.

Even-numbered addresses can sprinkle Tuesdays and Saturdays from 4 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. Odd-numbers addresses are the same hours on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Sprinkling at other times is subject to a fine. Applications for exception permits are available for new lawns.

According to research, lawns need less than one inch of water each week to stay healthy. Overwatering can cause lawn disease and leach nutrients from the soil. Early-morning sprinkling is ideal as less water evaporates.

Watering flowers, gardens and cars is permitted with a spring-loaded shutoff device.
