WEATHER: Snow returning to Abbotsford this afternoon

Snow mixed with freezing rain expected for the skies

The snow isn’t quite gone yet, and it appears by tonight all the white stuff could turn into a slushy mess.

Today’s forecast from Environment Canada for Abbotsford calls for overcast and windy conditions for most of the morning, with winds coming from the north east at about 30 kilometres per hour.

The snow is expected to return by around 3 p.m,, and in the evening we will see a mixture of snow and freezing rain.

That freezing rain is expected to turn into “heavy” freezing rain by the night, and continue for Thursday.

Here is today’s forecast for Abbotsford:

Today: Cloudy. Snow beginning this afternoon. Risk of freezing rain over southern sections late this afternoon. Local blowing snow this afternoon. Amount 2 to 4 cm. Becoming windy this morning. High minus 1.

Tonight: Snow at times heavy mixed with freezing rain changing to freezing rain at times heavy late this evening. Local blowing snow early this evening. Local snowfall amount 10 cm. Windy. Temperature steady near minus 1.

 

 

As far as schools closure goes, the following schools are closed today: Aberdeen Elementary, King Elementary, Mt. Lehman Elementary, Bradner Elementary, Barrowtown Elementary, South Poplar Elementary, Upper Sumas Elementary, Matsqui Elementary and Ross Elementary.

All public high schools and middle schools re-open today after two snow days.

All District buses are cancelled and will not be operating and transporting students.

 

As far as private schools go, MEI, St. John Brebeuf, Dasmesh Punjabi School and St. James and St. Ann’s Catholic Elementary are all closed.

Abbotsford Christian School is open today after two days of snow closure.

Both the University of the Fraser Valley and Columbia Bible College are open after two days without class.
