West Shore RCMP seize firearm near pre-school

Two arrested in Langford home late last night along with sawed off shotgun and marijuana

A little surveillance and a search warrant helped West Shore RCMP seize drugs and firearms from a home not far from a preschool.

Police were alerted to suspicious activity in the 2700 block of Claude Rd. in Langford and watched the home for a while. They conducted a search around 10 p.m. last night (Dec. 20).

Police arrested two residents, a 55-year-old man and an 18-year-old male.

They seized 200 grams of marijuana, more than $2,000 cash and a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun, and insecurely stored ammunition.

“Of great concern to police was the fact that this type of activity was being conducted in close proximity to a preschool,” said Acting Sgt. Kathy Rocklitz. “We are pleased to have this firearm in our custody and out of reach of these individuals and that this type of criminal activity has been removed from this area.”

One of the two arrested was released on a promise to appear in court March 7 while the other remains in custody.

Police are seeking charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.
