Westwood off-leash dog park closed for power line maintenance

NANAIMO – People will see time restrictions for when dogs can romp off leash at Westwood Lake Park, beginning Feb.1.

New time restrictions are on the way for off-leash romps at Westwood Lake’s dog park.

The off-leash dog park at Westwood Lake Park will be temporarily shuttered during work hours, beginning Feb. 1 as B.C. Hydro crews do power line maintenance.

According to a city press release, B.C. Hydro owns the land where the off-leash area is located but grants the City of Nanaimo access. The area will be temporarily closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, until March 31.

The public will be able to use the off-leash area outside of work hours.

The city has 11 other off-leash areas for dogs people can use, including at Colliery Dam, Beban Park, Cable Bay and Diver Lake.
