B.C.’s Wildfire Management Branch says personnel worked hard Monday to control two wildfires.
Crews were on scene at a blaze at the Greater Vernon landfill while there was also a wildfire at Spotted Lake, 10 kilometres west of Osoyoos.
“Both of these wildfires serve as a reminder of the current risk of wildfires throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre,” said Michaela Swan, communications officer.
“Cooler temperatures and cloudier conditions have not reduced the fire danger rating which remains high across the region.”
The blaze at the Greater Vernon landfill occurred when machinery malfunctioned and caught fire and the flames spread into nearby grass and wood debris. Besides the Wildfire Management Branch, local fire departments were also on scene.
The fire near Osoyoos is now mapped at 14.9 hectares in size.
