The first New Year’s Baby  born in the area of McLure to Little Fort finally made her long awaited appearance on Jan. 29, 2015.  Willow Sage Williams took her time coming, but at 6:50 a.m. that morning she was born to Kimberly Rudd and Tauren Williams of Barriere,

Kimberly, a hometown Barriere girl stated, “Willow may have waited for this long enough to have exactly the same birthday as her uncle Carter.”

Dad,  Tauren, works in Kamloops, and commutes back and forth from Barriere where the young family live in the basement suite of Kimberley’s parents home.

Longtime Barriere resident and retired businessman, Dave Baines, visited the young family last week to present Willow’s parents with a cheque for the baby that equaled turning her birth weight of 7 lb, 13 oz. into the same weight in loonies, which totaled $350.

Baines has been doing this now for many years, and says the idea came to him after listening to a lecture given 20 years ago by a successful businessman  who gave many New Years babies their weight in gold bouillon.

“The amount of the cheques is relatively small,” said Baines, “But as a very old saying goes “every little can make a much”,  and if this money is saved for the baby, it can grow to be of help later on.”a
