Witnesses sought in Vernon assault case

Incident occurred June 9 at a restaurant on 30th Avenue

Vernon RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in an assault case.

On June 9 at about  2:10 a.m., a police officer was approached by a man stating that another man had been assaulted at Margherita’s Pizza on 30th Avenue.

“Several people have been identified as victims in this assault,” said Gord Molendyk, Vernon RCMP spokesman.

“The assault appears to be the result of comments relating to the men and their man purses.  The investigation into this assault has led to a point where the police are asking those present for more answers about the assault and the people involved.”

Molendyk says there could have been as many as 15 people in the area at the time of the assault.

“The police have only spoken to a few of them so far,” he said.

“They are asking anyone who was in the area that evening or witnessed the assault to please call the police office. This assault has left one man with permanent injuries and the police would like to speak to anyone who was there during this time period.”
