One woman died and her husband is in critical condition following a crash on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Revelstoke on Sunday.

The crash took place about five kilometres west of Revelstoke a little after 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 20,

The driver, a 75-year-old Burnaby man, was traveling eastbound on the Trans-Canada when he lost control of his vehicle, crashing into the westbound ditch, says Trans-Canada East Traffic Services in a news release.

The man was taken to hospital in critical condition, while his wife, who was sitting in the passenger seat, died at the scene.

Two Australian passengers were also injured and taken to Queen Victoria Hospital and then airlifted to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

The accident is still under investigation, but neither speed nor alcohol are considered factors in the crash.

The incident closed the highway near Revelstoke for close to two hours and backed up traffic well past town.
